BEATRICE – Funnel cloud sightings and a tornado in northern Kansas accompanied strong thunderstorms overnight.

National Weather Service officials say they received a photo of a tornado about seven miles northwest of Norton, Kansas, at around 8:48 p.m.   No word on whether it did any damage in that area of northwest Kansas.

Funnel clouds were witnessed by spotters west of McCook, near Culbertson, Nebraska.  Red Willow County dispatchers reported observing a funnel cloud from their window.  One observer witnessed hail up to the size of tennis balls.

Farther east, National Weather Service officials received a social media video of a funnel cloud north of U.S. Highway 136, near Inavale.  In that same area, quarter to golf ball-sized hail fell.  A short distance away near Cowles, hail slightly larger than golf balls was reported.
