Senior quarterback Dustin Kapke rushed for a little under 50 yards with 1 rushing touchdown. The Trojans rushed for over 200 yards in the game, pushing them forward to the commanding lead.
The passing game was working for the Trojans with a 21 yard touchdown pass from Kapke to junior receiver Pierce Damrow to increase the lead. It was the backup quarterback, senior John Wehrman, who connected with junior receiver Cole Spahr for a 41 yard touchdown pass to put the game out of reach.
On the final play of the game, a pass from Fairbury freshman quarterback Jacob Nippert was intercepted in the endzone by Spahr and returned, 103 yards, for a pick six.
This blowout came one year after Fairbury blew out Tri County 35-0 on the road to open up its season. Fairbury lost a majority of its team in the offseason to graduating seniors while Tri County returned most of its key starters, which made a key difference in the game.
Tri County will go up against Yutan at home while Fairbury will be on the road against Falls City in Week 2.
