Community members take tour around Jefferson County, supporting local fundraiser
Locals showed up to rural Jefferson County to support a fundraiser aimed at helping the local fire department.
JANSEN, Neb. -- Over 125 ATVs, UTVs, and bikes, and approximately 500 people, toured around rural Jefferson County Sunday afternoon as a part of the first annual Cub Creek AG Tour.
The event was put together by the Jansen Fire Department as a fundraiser, taking the place of the cancelled Jansen Fun Days in July.
“We made a fundraiser for the fire department out in Jansen because they weren’t able to have a fundraiser," said Justin Wood, a fire department member. "We got together and thought, well, let's try to do a side-by-side ride and all the money donated goes to the fire department.”
The fire department took donations that will help cover some of the maintenance and equipment cost over the next year.
The turnout from the community was way more than they could have predicted.
“It blew me out of the water," Wood said. "I mean we were thinking maybe if we got 30 to 40 side-by-sides. I don’t know of our total count, but I heard they lost count at 125 bikes which I think we're way over that. It far exceeds our expectations.”
Wood said, after the turnout this year, how could they not have it next year.
