Storm warnings, hail and lightning, for SE Nebraska and NE Kansas

BEATRICE – Strong thunderstorms, several dropping large hail, affected southeast Nebraska and northeast Kansas overnight.

Several counties in both states were covered by severe thunderstorm warnings during the mid evening, and then later at night.  Storm wind gusts of 60 to 72 miles-per-hour accompanied late night storms in the Beatrice, Filley, Diller and Fairbury areas.  Storms carried intense lightning in southeast Nebraska.

Quarter to golf ball-sized hail was reported near Adams, Syracuse and Dunbar….and in Kansas, near the towns of Marysville, Hanover, Linn, Morrowville, Greenleaf and Haddam.

The largest hail reported was from a witness three miles southwest of Raymond…tennis ball-sized stones.

A brief tornado kicking up dust was observed eight miles northwest of Hamburg, Iowa, near Interstate 29.
