LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a scam where criminals are attempting to scare people into paying bond on fake warrants.
In a recent tweet from LSO, they say they have received multiple calls about criminals posing as a sergeant with the department, asking for personal information and attempting to scare people into paying bond on fake warrants.
Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said the scammers are threatening people that they know where they are and that they’re going to strip search them. Chief Houchin said the scammers threaten the people to get hands on their heads.
LSO is reminding people that they would never ask for money or a pre-paid credit card. If you’re not sure about the caller, Chief Houchin said to hang up before you give any personal information and call LSO to verify if it’s a deputy.
