LINCOLN, Neb. -- A juvenile was taken into custody while another ran for reportedly stealing a vehicle in Lincoln.

The Lincoln Police Department said officers were sent to the 2400 block of NW 2nd St. on Dec. 17 around 5:00 p.m. for a reported stolen vehicle.

Officers said a 2010 Kia Forte, estimated at $4,000, had reportedly just been stolen while it was left running and unlocked. They checked the area and found a 2016 Jeep Compass. The Jeep had been reported stolen the day before from a Pizza Hut parking lot, 5540 South St., while it was also running and unlocked.

According to authorities, they were dispatched to the 2600 block of N Chester St. around 10:42 p.m. The caller reported seeing unknown people driving a white vehicle around dead-end barricades and into a field.

Officials said officers found the Kia parked in the field and hidden next to a tree line. They saw two teenage boys coming up to the vehicle from the trees and tried to talk to them.

LPD said one of the teens fled into the field and was lost to the police while the other was taken into custody. The boy taken into custody was 12-years-old and referred for theft by receiving.
