Gage County authorities release identity of fatal fire victim

BEATRICE - A fire in a northern Gage County town killed a female occupant of the residence. Clatonia Fire and Rescue and the Gage County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a house fire at 10:33 PM Monday, on the corner of Jefferson St and N Oak St.
The fire broke out at 300 Jefferson Street…the northwest corner of the intersection. The woman was found dead, inside the home. She is identified as 63-year-old Mary Bauer.
A male occupant escaped the home. He is identified as the brother of the fatality victim. Gage County Sheriff Millard Gustafson says 54-year-old John Nelson was able to escape the fire by jumping from a porch overhang on the home. He was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in Lincoln for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The cause of the Monday night blaze remains under investigation, by the Nebraska Fire Marshal’s Office.
