LPD: Several teens taken into custody for multiple alleged thefts
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Four 15-year-olds and a 14-year-old were taken into custody after a reported auto theft, injury accident, and larceny from an auto in Lincoln.
The Lincoln Police Department said police were sent to the 2000 block of N 60th St. on Aug. 12 at 6:20 a.m. for a reported auto theft.
Officers said they talked to the 43-year-old male victim who told them his 2011 Nissan Maxima, estimated at $4,000, and his 2005 Dodge Magnum, estimated at $2,000, had been taken from his driveway in the night.
According to authorities, the officers responded to a report of a grey SUV or station wagon driving erratically in the parking lot of Antelope Park at 6:42 a.m. The officers found the Dodge Magnum in the lot with nobody inside and a flat tire on the rear passenger side. The caller reportedly advised the officers that the man who exited the Dodge was picked up by an unknown maroon vehicle and left the area.
Officials said they received a report of an injury accident at 7:10 a.m. and the police were sent to the 3100 block of Stephanos Drive. They reportedly found the Nissan had struck a tree, four occupants fled, and another 15-year-old female was still in the backseat but was unresponsive.
The report said the female was transported to a nearby hospital where she was identified and reportedly found to be heavily intoxicated.
According to authorities, the other suspects were a 14-year-old female, two 15-year-old females, and a 15-year-old male and were taken into custody after foot pursuits around the area of Tierra Park. They were all referred for theft by receiving.
LPD said they received another call at 10:23 a.m. for a reported larceny from an auto at the 5100 block of Topaz Court. A 23-year-old victim reportedly told the officers that unknown person(s) entered his father's vehicle that was parked on the street and took a .40 caliber Hi Point carbine rifle, 9mm Beretta, a box of .40 caliber ammunition and a wallet.
Officers said the video provided by a neighbor showed the 14-year-old female and one of the 15-year-old females, already in custody, taking the items and leaving the area. The firearms were recovered by the officers that canvassed the area and found them under a tree in the 3000 block of Sardius Court.
