An Omaha man was sentenced to prison for a child pornography conviction.

OMAHA, Neb. -- An Omaha man was sentenced to prison for a child pornography conviction.
Acting U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr said 41-year-old Derric Shy, of Omaha, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha on Thursday. He was convicted for distribution and receipt of child pornography. Shy will serve 121 months in prison with a five-year term of supervised release after. There is no parole in the federal prison system.
Court documents state that Homeland Security Investigations (“HSI”) agents in Nebraska began investigating a chat app after getting a case referral from an HSI agent in Michigan, who was conducting undercover chats. The undercover agent saw users upload several videos of child porn to a chat group, ‘#daugh.’
Officials said the agent specifically saw user “kikaroo” post three videos of child porn on Jan. 10, 2022. HSI Detroit sent a subpoena to the chat app and found out that “kikaroo” was connected to Shy. An IP address for the user also came back to Shy. HSI forwarded the chats, videos, and user information to HSI Nebraska.
According to authorities, a search warrant was used at Shy’s residence on April 7, 2022. Shy immediately admitted to knowing why they were there, stating it was because he was looking at stuff on the chat app at issue. Shy claimed the username “kikaroo” and admitted to looking at and sharing child porn. Shy told agents they would find child porn on his devices and gave them the passcodes.
At least nine videos of child porn was found on Shy’s cell phone and his computer had artifacts related to the case investigation.
This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations.
