National Weather Service confirms tornadoes over two states
Significant tree damage from violent storms, but no injuries reported
BEATRICE – The Topeka National Weather Service office reports a tornado has been confirmed from southern Gage County into northern Marshall County, rated as an EF-1 with estimated wind speeds of up to 104 miles-per-hour. It touched down about seven miles south-southwest of Wymore.
It began at 5:40 p.m Saturday and lifted 13 minutes later….with a path of about 4.1 miles long and 150 yards wide, at its maximum. The damage assessment was conducted by both the Topeka and Omaha National Weather Service offices. There were no injuries or deaths.
The Topeka NWS damage assessment team also determined a tornado was on the ground from three-miles south of Oketo to three-miles east-northeast of Marysville….a distance of 4.5 miles. That tornado, also Saturday at around 5:53 p.m, was on the ground for about 13 minutes and rated as an EF-1, with peak wind speeds of 90 miles-per-hour…and 50-yards-wide. It damaged trees, power poles and a barn.
A third tornado touched down three miles north-northeast of Blue Rapids, Kansas at about 6:26 p.m., and traveled about 1.6 miles before lifting at 6:31 p.m. It was also an EF-1 with estimated peak wind speeds of 90-miles-per-hour…and 50 yard wide. That tornado derailed some train cars, damages trees and power poles.
