Snow emergency declared in Fairbury
Careful where you park in Jefferson County!
FAIRBURY, NE — A southeast Nebraska city has issued a snow emergency in anticipation of a significant winter storm.
Fairbury Mayor Spencer Brown designated the snow emergency to start just after midnight Saturday morning. All parking on emergency snow routes is prohibited and parking is prohibited in the downtown district after two inches of snowfall until snow is windrowed to the center of the street. Once the snow has been windrowed, vehicles are allowed to parallel park in this district unless otherwise noted. Vehicles parked in prohibited areas are subject to towing at the owner’s expense.

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings for all counties in the KUTT/KWBE coverage area. The NWS expects snow to start falling after midnight Saturday and last until the evening hours. Forecasters predict five to eight inches to fall in Jefferson County in total. Winds could gust up to 30 miles per hour on Saturday, causing blowing snow and dropping wind chills to -20 degrees.
