Downtown Wymore reopens, town cleans up day after intense storm

WYMORE - Downtown Wymore is back open and things are slowly looking more and more normal after Wednesday’s vicious storm hit the town center.
On Wednesday night, Wymore Fire Chief Mark Meints said the town had to barricade its downtown area due to a roof that had come off of a building. The department also opened their fire house to those in need. Hilary Barton is one of several Wymore residents who endured the harrowing experience of a tree falling on or near their house.
“Our tree hit our house,” Barton said. “It hit the side of the house, created this enormous ‘BOOM!’ and me and my kids just kind of huddled up in a blanket in case there was any glass.”
With strong winds persisting throughout the hours after the storm, the immediate clean up time was delayed. Today, officials placed dumpsters in the downtown area where debris is being disposed.
Barton explained what she remembered from last night’s work downtown.
“I know they barricaded it off and they were working on getting stuff out of the store where the roof blew off to make sure there was no damage in there,” Barton said. “They barricaded it off so no one could get through, and no one would have been able to, because the roof was all over the ground.”
