Bobcat Softball Splits Double Header with William Penn

The Peru State softball team maintained its third-place standing in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division with a split of its games on Tuesday.

(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State softball team maintained its third-place standing in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division with a split of its games on Tuesday.

The Bobcats topped the visiting William Penn Statesmen 2-1 in the opening game, but dropped the second game 3-0.
 
Peru State is now 14-18 on the season and are 8-9 in the Heart North – one full game ahead of William Penn who are now 14-17 overall and 8-11 in the division.

Game One Action
 
Neither team scored through the first four innings although the Bobcats had an opportunity to do so in the bottom of the first and the Statesmen could have scored in the top of the fourth.
 
William Penn would score its only run in the top of the fifth to lead 1-0.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Peru State would tie the score. Takia Walker (Enterprise, Ala.) singled thru the hole at second base. However, a double play stopped that potential score. Morgan Wilke(Bakersfield, Calif.) doubled to left and would score when Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) singled to center to drive in the run. Farrell was out stretching for second, but the score was tied at 1-1.
 
After taking down the Statesmen in the top of the seventh, the 'Cats came up to the plate. Jerica German (Cortland) singled to the pitcher's mound. Brooklyn Franco (Syracuse, Utah) entered to run for German. Franco would move to second on a wild pitch. After two outs, Carlye Rothschild(Eros, La.) came in to pinch hit and would hit a double for a walk-off as Franco scored to give the Bobcats the 2-1 win.
 
Peru State scored its two runs on seven hits and did not commit any errors. William Penn scored its one run on three hits and also did not commit any errors.
 
Farrell had two hits to lead the team. Farrell and Rothschild each had one RBI.
 
Alana Krieser (Lincoln) threw a complete game for the win. Krieser allowed just three hits, one earned run, and struck out three.

The Bobcats could only muster two hits in the second game as runs were again a premium.
 
William Penn scored two runs in the fifth and added one more in the seventh for their 3-0 win.
 
The Statesmen would get seven hits in the win.
 
Walker and Carli Kohout (Cortland) were the only Bobcats to get hits in the game with Kohout having a double.
 
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) tossed a complete game for Peru State and was tagged for the loss. Leach allowed seven hits, three runs – two earned, and struck out six.

Peru State will be hosting Graceland (Iowa) on Wednesday at the Centennial Complex Field in a double header beginning at 2 p.m. The Yellowjackets are 12-23 on the season and are 4-14 in the Heart North.
 
This Sunday, April 18, the 'Cats will host Benedictine (Kan.) in a cross-division double header beginning at 1 p.m. The Ravens are 24-14 on the year and are 12-10 in the Heart South. This will be Senior Day for the Bobcats.
