Highway 103 construction starts today south of Diller
DILLER, NE — Travel will be slowed on a southeast Nebraska highway for the next few months.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation says work started today on Highway 103 south of Diller. Work includes milling, concrete repair, bridge repair, asphalt surfacing, earth shoulder construction and seeding.
Project Manager Ron Klaus says the asphalt is rutted and worn out.
“The bridge needs some repair done to it," Klaus said. "When we get done with the bridge, then we put a waterproofing membrane on it and cover it with asphalt. What they’re doing is trying to preserve the bridge.”
The project starts at the bridge immediately south of Diller. Klaus says it will be shut down to one lane with a traffic signal for four weeks. Then, the project will move south extending to the junction with Highway 8. Crews will do milling work, then fill three inches of asphalt back on top.
The highway will be controlled by flaggers and a pilot car from early September to mid October. The project is expected to finish by late October.
Constructors, Inc. has the nearly $1.7 million contract.
The Department of Transportation urges drives to use caution in construction zones.
