FAIRBURY, NE — Travelers will be able to use a major highway in the Fairbury area starting on Tuesday.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation announced Monday that Highway 15 north of Fairbury will reopen to two-lane traffic at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday.  The reopening is weather permitting.

The highway had been shut down since June 8th, forcing travelers to detour as much as 48 miles to access Fairbury from the north.  The DOT recommended a detour that took drivers through Beatrice.

The construction project started in September and will continue until November. The project includes removing two bridges and replacing them with box culverts.

The DOT encourages drivers to use extra caution in work zones.
