Winter weather moving into Nebraska Friday and is expected to last all weekend
Here's the midday update on the winter storm warnings and advisories around the state:
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Dawes and Sioux Counties from 5 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday
- Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Higher localized totals of up to a foot possible along the Pine Ridge. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact area travelers.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Banner; Box Butte; Morrill; Scotts Bluff counties from 5 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday
- Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will likely impact area travelers.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Cheyenne and Kimball counties from 5 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday
- Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph will create areas of near-blizzard like conditions. Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will likely impact interstate travel.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Arthur; Blaine; Boyd; Brown; Chase; Custer; Deuel; Eastern Cherry; Frontier; Garden; Garfield; Grant; Hayes; Holt; Hooker; Keith; Keya Paha; Lincoln; Logan; Loup; McPherson; Perkins; Rock; Sheridan; Thomas; Western Cherry; and Wheeler counties from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday
- A strong winter storm will impact western and north-central Nebraska with two rounds of wintry weather. Light freezing rain or a wintry mix of precipitation is likely tonight. By Saturday as temperatures cool from west to east, snow will develop and may become heavy at times, especially over north-central Nebraska Saturday night into Sunday. Strong gusty winds will develop Saturday night into Sunday producing areas of blowing and drifting snow. This may produce near whiteout conditions Saturday night into Sunday. Heavy mixed precipitation expected mainly tonight with ice accumulations of one to two-tenths of an inch. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 12 inches are likely. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow Saturday night into Sunday could significantly reduce visibility.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Antelope; Boone; Cedar; Knox; Madison; Pierce; Platte; Stanton; and counties Wayne from 9 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday, followed by a Winter Storm Watch from Saturday evening through late Sunday night.
- For the Winter Weather Advisory, mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch. For the Winter Storm Watch, heavy mixed precipitation and snow possible. Storm- total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. In addition, heavy liquid precipitation amounts could lead to increased run-off due to some areas of frozen ground across northeast Nebraska.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Adams; Buffalo; Dawson; Franklin; Furnas; Gosper; Greeley; Hall; Hamilton; Harlan; Howard; Kearney; Merrick; Nance; Phelps; Sherman; and Valley Counties from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday.
- Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch. Winds will be relatively light tonight through Saturday, but northwest winds will increase Saturday night and Sunday with gusts as high as 35 mph. A mix of rain and freezing rain, possibly mixed with snow and sleet at times,
is expected tonight through Saturday morning. Then additional rain and snow will persist off and on through Sunday. Travel could be difficult due to icy and snow-packed roads. Patchy blowing snow could also reduce visibility.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Clay; Polk; Webster; and York from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday
- Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch. Winds will be relatively light tonight through Saturday, but northwest winds will increase Saturday night and Sunday with gusts as high as 35 mph. From 6 PM this evening to 6 PM CST Sunday. A mix of rain and freezing rain, possibly mixed with snow and sleet at times, is expected tonight through Saturday morning. Then additional rain and snow will persist off and on through Sunday. Travel could be difficult due to icy and snow-packed
roads.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Dundy, Hitchcock and Red Willow counties from 5 p.m. Friday to 11 a.m. Sunday
- Precipitation will start as mainly rain before transitioning to a snow-and-freezing-rain mix Friday night into Saturday morning. Colder air will allow for a transition to all snow on Saturday. Strong winds on the backside of the exiting low on Saturday could lead to some blowing snow. Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of up to 4 inches and ice accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.
