Reckless driver arrested, after pursuit ends near Wymore
A Beatrice man is in custody after a reckless driving incident and pursuit in Gage County
GAGE COUNTY, Neb. - A Beatrice man was placed under arrest after a reckless driving incident and pursuit in Gage County
According a Gage County Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies were dispatched around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday on reports of reckless driving on Highway 77 near Lilac Road. The vehicle was reported to be swerving into oncoming lanes, forcing other motorists off the roadway. The vehicle also struck a mailbox north of Olive Road.
Deputies located the vehicle on Highway 77 near Broad Street, outside of Blue Springs, where they observed it continuing to swerve from lane to lane. When deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver refused to stop and fled.
The pursuit continued south along Highway 77, south of Wymore. Authorities said the driver repeatedly swerved during the pursuit, again forcing other vehicles off the roadway to avoid collisions.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle left the roadway on the right side and spun out. The driver, identified as 46-year-old Christopher Packett of Beatrice, was taken into custody at the scene without further incident.
Packett was transported to the Gage County Detention Center. No injuries were reported.
The incident remains under investigation.
