Helicopter will help transport structures for NPPD

COLUMBUS, Neb.— A helicopter is being used to assist in the process of installing new power poles near Friend and Dorchester.
Nebraska Public Power District will be using the helicopter to move the poles starting Thursday, the transportation is expected to take a couple days.
Once the poles are in place, a smaller helicopter will help string the power lines which will take a couple weeks.
“Due to the size and build of the structures, the safest and most efficient option for getting the structures installed in their new locations is to fly them in by helicopter,” said NPPD District Transmission Manager Bob Blessin.
NPPD says drone operators should refrain from operating in the area and drivers who see helicopters carrying the structures should maintain a safe distance. Some roads might be closed temporarily to ensure safety.
The work is being done to repair 41 structures on a transmission line that was damaged by a storm in August.
