BRUNING, Neb.— Three establishments in Bruning are all clear after reports of a man with a rifle turn out to be false.

Thayer County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post they received an alert that a man was spotted on HWY 4 carrying a rifle, Thursday morning.

“The Sheriff's Office was able to get the name and phone number of the reporting party who initially reported the incident.  The Sheriff's Office contacted that individual who advised that at approximately 9:00 a.m. he observed a male near the Bruning spur off of Hwy #4 carrying a rifle,” the Sheriff’s office said.

The reporter told the officers that the person had gotten into a newer SUV, with possible government plates and drove towards Bruning.

Bruning School, area Day Care Center, and Bruning Bank were put into a lockdown/secure status.

After investigation officials believe the suspect was a student carrying a tripod taking pictures for a school project.
