Jefferson County sets new zoning permit fee schedule

Jefferson County approved an across-the-board increase to costs of permits and other changes to planning and zoning fees this month.
That's part of an effort to keep Jefferson County's costs and revenues more on par with others across the state.
The changes mean it will now cost more for Jefferson County citizens to acquire zoning and conditional use permits, and permission for things like wind and wireless towers and solar.
But though those things will cost more than they previously had in this part of the state, they will actually now cost about as much as they do in other parts of the state: Planning and Zoning director John McKee said he evaluated the fees in other counties such as Antelope and Holt and found that Jefferson County was lagging behind with its lower existing fee costs.
"That’s usually what we do as a group – an email goes out and everybody’s asking what others do. And the ones who sent me their [information] back, they asked me, would you send us back what you do? It helps them to determine what they’re going to do too," McKee said.
