Beatrice Fire, EMS answer natural gas calls, rollover accident

BEATRICE – Beatrice Fire and Rescue crew members were dispatched to couple of incidents reporting natural gas problems, and a rollover accident over the Easter Holiday weekend.
Fire and rescue personnel were dispatched to the Sonic Restaurant in north Beatrice on what initially was reported as a fire in a gas line. Arriving crews observed nothing on approach. A fire captain said there had been a small fire under a grill. A Black Hills Energy crew was summoned to the property. Fire personnel left the scene after a half-hour.
At around 9:45 p.m. Saturday, fire department personnel were sent to the 400-block of Court Street where renovation work was being done. A gas meter was accidently struck in the basement, causing gas to escape. Firefighters ventilated the area and no gas concentration reached nearby buildings. A gas company crew was also summoned to that scene to address the problem, and fire crews were back in service, just after 10:30 p.m.
A fire captain says a two-vehicle collision occurred at 2nd and Court Streets, late Saturday morning, at around 11:14 a.m. One of the vehicles overturned onto its side. EMS personnel transported two people…..one from each vehicle….to Beatrice Community Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
No other information is available on how that accident happened.
