Walter H. Oden, 98, of Beatrice, died on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at a Lincoln hospital.  He was born on March 29, 1927, in Beatrice and attended Beatrice Public Schools.  He served in the U.S. Army from June 26, 1945, until November 22, 1946.  On August 14, 1948, he married Delores J. Nelson in Marysville, KS.  They lived in Beatrice where Walt owned and operated his own trucking business doing contract hauling for farmers.  He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, the VFW, and the American Legion all of Beatrice.  He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities and traveling. It was important to Walt to thank the area farmers that called on him to do custom hauling.

Survivors include five sons, Ted (Melody) Oden, Wes (Lois) Oden, Morris Oden and girlfriend, Nancy Miller, Dan (Michelle) Oden and Keith (Jackie) Oden; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores, who died on September 23, 2014; parents, Thomas and Emily (Schiermeyer) Oden; two brothers, Charles and Roy Oden; sister, Arbanna (Eugene) Christ; parents-in-law, Morris and Alma Nelson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025  at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating.  Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice with military rites conducted by Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the Beatrice American Legion.  Closed casket visitation will be held on Monday from noon until 8:00 P.M.
