Larry Dennis Carlson, 78, of Beatrice, passed away Friday evening, February 21, 2025, at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center.  He was born on November 14, 1946, in Beatrice to John and Evelyn Carlson.  Larry grew up alongside his brother, William “Uncle Bill” Carlson and graduated from Beatrice High School in 1965.  He played baseball for the University of Nebraska at Omaha and graduated in 1969. A proud veteran, Larry served his country with honor as a member of the U.S. Army demonstrating unwavering dedication and courage.  His service reflected his steadfast character and commitment to others.  He worked in the pharmaceutical industry for many years and traveled worldwide.  He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice. Larry’s lifelong passion for baseball became one of the defining aspects of his life.  His remarkable contributions to the sport earned him induction into the Nebraska Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021 – a crowning achievement that celebrated his enduring impact on the game he loved so deeply.  He was nicknamed “The Fireman” and was the top relief pitcher for UNO.  In his personal life, Larry shared profound love and companionship with his first wife, Jan Ideus.  As a devoted father to Tara and Tiffany, and a cherished grandfather to Evie Lynn, Tayler, and Cruz, Larry found immense joy in his family.  Their happiness was always at the heart of his life.  Larry also treasured the bonds of friendship that enriched his journey.  Among these was a close connection with Pat Davidson, whose friendship brought additional warmth and meaning to Larry’s days.  Larry leaves behind a legacy defined by love for family, dedication to service, and an extraordinary passion for baseball.  Larry also enjoyed playing golf and had been a member of Hidden Acres, Wymore Country Club, and the Beatrice Country Club. May his memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Survivors include two daughters, Tiffany Harris of St. Charles, MO and Tara Lynn Carlson of Dupo, Il; one grandson; two granddaughters; former, wife, Jan Ideus Litherland; sister-in-law, Marilyn Carlson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette, who died on March 19, 2020; parents, John and Evelyn (Bathel) Carlson; brother, William Carlson.

                Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Fox Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Renae Koehler officiating.  Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice.  The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. with the family greeting friends at the same time.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Nebraska Baseball Hall of Fame in Beatrice.  www.foxfuneralhome.net    Arrangements entrusted to Fox Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Beatrice.
