FAIRBURY - Citizens of Fairbury were affected by a system outage which briefly prevented them from paying bills online at the start of this week.

The outage came at an inopportune time, with payments for utilities and other services typically due at this time of the month.

The city of Fairbury issued an alert shortly before 9 AM Monday simply stating that online payments were unavailable and to contact the city office in order to submit payments.

The city's check drop-off and drive-through procedures were still in operation despite the online outage, and it may be preferable for those that are able to pay in person anyway, since paying online via a check or card incurs an additional service fee.

The online portal was back up and running by noon Tuesday.
