Nebraska man killed by runaway semi-truck in Missouri
Emergency crews responded to a crash involving a pedestrian in the area of northbound I-29 and Missouri Highway 118, near Mound City, around 12:40 p.m.
First responders found a 1999 Peterbilt semi-truck had been parked on the east shoulder of the interstate with no driver.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, winter weather conditions caused the semi to slide down the hill as a runaway truck before it hit Travis Dozler, 33, of Neligh, Nebraska, who had been walking in the area. Dozler was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said the slide caused the truck to run off the east side of the interstate where its trailer hit a light pole.
A GoFundMe has been set up to support Dozler’s pregnant wife and their four other children.
Dozler's visitation will be held at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill on Sunday, Jan. 12 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
His funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. with a Rosary before Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial at St. Theresa’s Catholic Cemetery will follow.
