Lincoln, NEB. - There’s a new name and a new face calling the plays on the Huskers sideline.

New offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen met with the media for the first time on Tuesday, recapping his first impressions of the Husker offense.

“I’ve literally worked 16 hour days for 13-14 days,” Holgorsen said. “I’m still learning the offense… I’m still learning the nuances, the players, so I’m still trying to get to know this guys. At the end of the day, it’s about putting your head down and preparing.”

Hologorsen has spent 13 years as a head coach between West Virginia and Houston. He also served as offensive coordinator at Houston and Oklahoma. Freshman Quarterback Dylan Raiola says he’s enjoyed working with Holgorsen because he’s been around the block.

“He’s been around it for awhile, he knows exactly what the plays are supposed to look like, he helps to design different plays and certain people to get the ball so I think his experience is the biggest thing for myself and everybody involved,” Raiola said.

Holgorsen also spoke on the Huskers receiving core, noting he’s encouraged the unit to tighten up the perimeter blocking.

“There’s good size kids out there 16 (Bonner), 18 (Neyor), 4 (Banks), 29 (Nelson), I mean these guys are big bodies,” Holgorsen said. “As a receiver you want touches, you’re saying throw me the ball, the first thing I said to them wa sir you don’t start blocking you aren’t going to get the ball thrown to you.”

Nebraska hosts Wisconsin on Saturday with a chance to end a bowl game drought that dates back to 2016 and a losing streak to the Badgers that goes back to 2012. Kick off is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on BTN.
