Think your vote doesn't count? Check village board races
BEATRICE – Some election races for area village boards in Gage County were close enough this past election, the Gage County Clerk’s office is looking into the matter of potential recounts.
Clerk and Election Commissioner Dawn Hill says she hopes to sort it all out this week, but it depends on the counting of provisional ballots and what state law determines as to whether recounts are automatically warranted.
One of the closes races was for the Cortland Village Board, where three of four candidates running for two positions… finished only two votes apart.
Taylor Burkey and Chase Meints both finished with 127 votes, while Chaddwick Ziemann was only two votes behind, with 125. A fourth candidate, Dustin McGee, picked up 110 votes.
