Dennis “Denny” Dee Day was born on May 3rd, 1949 in Beatrice, Nebraska to William “Bill” Sampson Day and Edna Mae (Swanson) Day. He passed away at his home on November 3, 2024. He attended Wymore Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1967. He attended Peru State College. He worked on weekends for area farmers throwing bales and doing other farm work. The draft board contacted him when he was 4th in line to be drafted, so he volunteered on December 7th, 1972. Basic Training was at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He graduated basic and was given 17 days to report to Rheinure, Germany. He was assigned to the RR Motor Pool Battalion. He came home the following May. On June 1st, 1974 he married Mary Hope McClure. They were blessed with two daughters, Denielle and Gina. Denny later married Joyce Vitosh on October 23, 1998. Upon this union he gained two more “kids,” Mary and Thomas Lampe. He was also blessed with a “bonus daughter,” Amy.

He followed his father's footsteps working for the railroad and devoted his life's work as an engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad and retired from BNSF after 38 years of devoted service.

Denny partook in many mischievous activities with his best friends Jay Allen and Ted Henderson. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as swimming in the Big Blue River. His best memories are of hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Ultimately, Denny could no longer pursue his love of the outdoors because of declining health and multiple surgeries over the past decade. Denny was a passionate Husker fan, especially Big Red Football and Volleyball. His family requests that guests wear Husker attire to the funeral service to support Denny’s love of his Huskers. GO BIG RED!

Denny is survived by his wife, Joyce Day of Beatrice; daughters and stepchildren, Denielle (Scott) Trauernicht, Gina Cook, Mary (Grant) Lampe Rhodes, Thomas (Denise) Lampe, and Amy (Brian) Argo; grandchildren; Lauren, Natalie, and Lainey Trauernicht, Mia Gerten-Orme, Elise, Sarah, Coy, and Kai Gerten, Cariline, Hanna, and Olivia Lampe; brother, Don (Dee) Day; several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
