BEATRICE – A communications company will utilize Nebraska Universal Service Fund support to help build cell towers in the state…adding to the 60 it has built or upgraded since 2010.

U.S. Cellular is receiving almost $6.5 million to help build 10 towers…two of them located near Plymouth and Sterling.  The company recently completed construction on 10 other towers, including one near Tobias.

The new sites are expected to be completed in September of 2026.  A company official says the Universal Service Fund is important because new cell towers can cost twice as much to build in rural areas, compared to urban centers.

U.S. Cellular says the towers will help enhance mobile connectivity in rural areas of Nebraska.
