FAIRBURY, Neb. - Jefferson County citizens will have the opportunity to interact with two of the state’s most prominent elected officials this month when Nebraska's United States Senators Deb Fischer and Pete Ricketts both make public appearances in Fairbury on October 29.

“This is a significant event for our community here in Fairbury,” Jefferson County Commissioner Mark Schoenrock said. “We’ve been working with both offices, and we’re honored to have them both come to the city of Fairbury and visit Jefferson County.”

Ricketts and Fischer, both Republicans and both on the ballot in next month’s general election, will both be in Fairbury on the same day, Tuesday, October 29, just days before ballots are cast and reviewed. Ricketts has been locked in to a trip to Jefferson County that day for a while now, but Fischer’s camp just confirmed her availability to come to the county within the last couple of days – and coincidentally, both senators’ trip to the area falls on the same day, two Tuesdays from now.

“This is a great opportunity for them to meet with their constituents, with the citizens they represent, and it’s a great opportunity for our citizens here in Fairbury to come meet their United States senators,” Schoenrock said.

On the Bricks on E Street in downtown Fairbury will play host to both officials on October 29. Fischer is scheduled to appear at 4 PM with Ricketts to follow at 5.

“There’s nothing like face-to-face contact, where you get to talk to your elected representatives face-to-face. That’s absolutely invaluable,” Schoenrock said. “And we’ll now have the opportunity to have them here so they can meet our citizens and our citizens can meet them.”

A local elected official himself, Schoenrock says there’s been constant contact between himself and fellow folks at the county and local level with both senators’ camps and others at the state and national level to make an event like this happen. And now that it’s on the books at On the Bricks, it’s an event that should benefit all involved: candidates, counties, and constituents.

“There is a lot of Nebraska to represent,” he said. “We have a beautiful, wonderful state, and it’s a very large area, so for them to get out there and meet their citizens is absolutely vital, I would think, for them, so that when they go back to Washington, D.C. they can do a better job representing all of our citizens here in Nebraska.”
