Rhule talks kicking situation, Huskers prepare for undefeated Rutgers
Nebraska Head Coach Matt Rhule met with the media on Monday
LINCOLN, NEB. - Nebraska Head Coach Matt Rhule met with the media on Monday, recapping Nebraska's 28-10 win over Purdue and previewed Saturday's meeting with undefeated Rutgers.
In Nebraska's win on Saturday, the Huskers kicker John Hohl missed three field goals. However, Rhule didn't point to the kicker, rather the snaps and says Nebraska's usually clean when kicking in practice.
"To me it wasn't the field goal protection team, it was the snaps," Rhule said. "I mean this sincerely. We know what to do and we have the guys that know how to do it, so we have to go do it. That's the phase we're in... When you talk about winning football or championship winning football, you can't be a different guy in practice then you are in the game."
On defense, Nebraska bounced back against Purdue, holding the Boilermakers to ten points and 224 yards, just 1.6 yards per attempt, and forced a turnover with a John Bullock pick six.
On offense, Dylan Raiola threw for 257 yards and a touchdown. The Huskers offense had a handful of explosive plays, but Rhule says against Rutgers Head Coach Greg Schiano's scheme, explosive plays could be hard to find.
"They don't give up explosive plays, they make you earn it," Rhule said. "They will pressure you and we're build to handle the pressure and get the ball out of our hands... They play 4-3 quarters with rugged players and try to knock you back in the quarterbacks lap. Whole different animal that we're facing this week."
Nebraska and Rutgers kick off at 3:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, with the game on FS1.
