BEATRICE - A motorcycle rider being pursued was killed when his bike slammed into a van in Omaha, Saturday.

At about 8:14 p.m, a Nebraska State Trooper attempted a traffic stop on the motorcycle for speeding and no license plate on Interstate 680 near Pacific Street in Omaha. When the trooper activated emergency lights, the motorcycle rider accelerated and refused to stop. The trooper then pursued the rider.

The motorcycle entered I-80 westbound and traveled at over 110 miles per hour. A Nebraska State Patrol helicopter was airborne in the area, at the time.

The motorcycle exited I-80 at Giles and reentered the interstate eastbound. The rider then exited I-80 and began traveling westbound on L Street. The helicopter pilot was able to observe the motorcycle turning northbound onto 120th Street.

The rider ran a red light at 120th and I Streets and crashed into a westbound van. Paramedics were dispatched, but the rider was pronounced dead at the scene. Two occupants of the van were transported to Bergan Mercy Hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.

Omaha Police Department will conduct the crash investigation. The entire pursuit lasted five minutes.
