'He's too athletic to not be on the field': Heinrich Haarberg's role moving forward

LINCOLN, NEB. - In 2023, Nebraska's starting quarterback was also their leading rusher. Heinrich Haarberg took over the starting role late in the non-conference slate last year.
However, Dylan Raiola has been named Nebraska's starter for Saturday's contest with UTEP, but Nebraska Offensive Coordinator Marcus Satterfield says that doesn't mean Haarberg won't have a role.
"Heinrich's too athletic to be standing on the sideline holding a clipboard," Satterfield said. "We can be creative and do a bunch of different things, we can generate a run game by handing the ball off, we can put two quarterback's in there, we can do a bunch of stuff."
Haarberg, a Kearney native and Kearney Catholic alum, ran for a team high 477 yards in 2023 with five touchdowns. Quarterback Dylan Raiola and tight end Thomas Fidone echo the message of Marcus Satterfield in that Haarberg's athletic ability is worthy of being on the field.
"Honestly, Heinrich is one of the most athletic guys in our building," Raiola said. "He's a great person, I love being around him, my locker is right next to him... He's going to go make plays, I'm thankful for Heinrich, for showing me the ropes."
"When he's out there, he's going to do what he's always done," Fidone said. "He's a great player and a great athlete, you can't have someone like him and not put him on the field."
Nebraska and UTEP kicks off at 2:30 p.m. CT at Memorial Stadium.
