Assault on pregnant woman lands suspect in Gage County Jail

BEATRICE – A Beatrice woman was arrested on several counts over the weekend, following an assault and strangulation incident involving a female victim police learned was about 16 weeks pregnant.
41-year-old Jamie Fortney was arrested on suspicion of strangulation, 3rd degree assault, domestic abuse, assault of a peace office, obstructing police and possession of a controlled substance.
Police were called to an assault in progress Saturday night, in the four-hundred block of North 13th. The suspect was reported to be punching and pulling the hair of the female victim.
When police contacted Fortney, she appeared to be under the influence of a substance. A search consented to by the suspect recovered a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine…and tested positive for the suspected drug.
Police spoke with the victim of an assault, who described being being tossed around by he hair and choked. Police said the victim had scratches on her arms, blood on her mouth and blood vessels burst in her left eye.
Fortney was taken into custody and allegedly kicked an officer twice and attempted to kick an officer several times more. She was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital and medically cleared, then was taken to the Gage County Jail.
