FAIRBURY, Neb. -- The Jefferson County Courthouse is undergoing construction on the south side of the building.

Due to a moisture buildup in the ceiling, some of the panel’s fell to the ground in 2020, by the district courtroom.

It was then recommended by architects that the ceiling be replaced.

For now, the construction will affect the west side of the building, but will be moved to the east side over time.

“They are continuing the project on the south side of the building where they are going to put four by eight boards up there and sheet rock and fire tape everything back up so there is no chance of a ceiling collapse again in the future,” said Travis Arnold, Jefferson County Courthouse Maintenance Supervisor.

The purpose is to use precautionary measures to keep the ceiling from falling and becoming an injury hazard in the future.

The company overseeing the project, EBS Construction, said it will take around two or two and a half months to complete.

The county and district courtrooms will not be affected but the office spaces nearby will.
