Wymore Area Livestock show provides a warm up for Gage Co. Fair
WYMORE, NEB. - Practice makes perfect, it’s a saying old as time.
On Thursday night, participants in area livestock showing got to do just that, in a pre fair livestock show.
“It’s just a chance to get the animals out in the ring with animals and have one chance to get a feel for the ring and get a better feel for what they need to do as an exhibitor.”
Denielle Traurenicht is a 4-H leader for the area and says the Wymore Area Livestock show was a a bit of a warm up for next week’s Gage County Fair. She says the purpose of events like these, is to learn.
“There’s always something new to learn,” Trauernicht said. “Some might be in the ring for the first time, some may be veterans.”
For participants like Zander Seeman of Wymore, it’s a chance to see what he needs to improve on.
“Just a chance to see where we’re all at,” Seeman said. “See what else we can do to make them better for fair.”
Harper Schmidt of Clatonia is getting ready for her second trip to the Gage County Fair. For her, the show presented an opportunity to get a better idea of what the judges will look for.
“Focus on some stuff like watching the judge a little bit more and getting the animal in a better position and stuff like that.”
As a whole, Trauernicht says livestock showing has more meaning than just caring for animals - it also is a chance for kids to build relationships.
“It’s also important they get to meet other kids,” Trauernicht said. “In the adult world, we call it networking, but it really is. These kids have friends from different places around the county, state, and maybe even the country.”
