JEFFERSON COUNTY, Neb. -- Work will begin on a Jefferson County road at the end of July, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

July 29 will be the first day of work on S-48A at reference post 0+15, weather permitting.

Work, which will be done by Van Kirk Sand & Gravel of Sutton, will include building a box culvert under existing bridge, grading, paving and seeding.

Traffic will be maintained with one-lane closures done in phases and temporary traffic signals will be used for construction of the project. An 11-foot width restriction will be in effect.

According to NDOT, the purpose of this project is to preserve the transportation asset, improve the reliability of the transportation system and perpetuate the mobility of the traveling public.

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, buckle up and to put phones down.

Anticipated completion is Nov. 15 of 2024.
