FAIRBURY, NEB. - As fair season continues across Nebraska, it's getting underway in the states southeast region.

The Jefferson County Fair gets underway on Wednesday, scheduled for July 10-14.

"We schedule, all through the fair, several different activities, often at the same time... We're trying to find something for everyone."

Committee member Dennis Keening said the event draws in people from a number of surrounding towns and counties. One of the big draws is the USAC Midget Racing at Jefferson County Speedway, beginning Thursday with test and tune and racing during the weekend. The fair also features a rodeo at the horse arena and a traditional carnival.

Keening says a nice part about the fair is free admission, outside of the carnival and races.

"If you come to the horse arena, you get free admission," Keening said. "We're not charging for an auto pass, we're not charging for you to get in the gate, none of it. I encourage people to take advantage of that, especially those with families."

Some new elements to the fair include a hypnotist and a ranch rodeo on the fairs final day.
