BEATRICE – Severe storm winds possibly from a tornado ripped the roof off a farm building and did extensive tree damage overnight, about five miles north of Martell.

That was one of the spotter reports to the National Weather Service, as tornado warnings were issued for parts of Lancaster, Saline and Seward Counties…..including at one point, the City of Lincoln.

The sighting of a funnel cloud north of Martell at around 11:50 p.m., included multiple power flashes observed near U.S. Highway 77 and Nebraska Highway 2.  An observer reported a brief tornado touchdown in that area.  A gas station awning was reported blown down and there was tree damage just northeast of Lincoln.

Severe thunderstorm warnings and flash flood warnings were issued for several counties in southeast Nebraska as storms producing torrential rain moved over the same areas, one after the other.

Flash flooding was reported in west Lincoln along A Street at Southwest 6th Road and at the intersection with U.S. 77.

In northeast Lincoln, three vehicles were reported submerged in flood waters at 48th and Cornhusker.  The Havelock and Cornhusker underpass was closed due to floodwaters and water was over the road at 84th and Havelock.

Near Ashland, the National Weather Service reports homes were being flooded near Horseshoe Lake and someone was trapped in their home by floodwaters, at South Bend, Nebraska.
