Beatrice Farmers Market in full swing
BEATRICE, NEB. - The season for local outdoor shopping is underway in southeast Nebraska.
“There’s really just a wide variety of things you can find here… Honey, eggs, everything,”
Morgan Fox is Executive Director for Main Street Beatrice, the group that puts on the Beatrice Farmers Market every summer Thursday from 4-6:30 PM at 6th and High streets.
Fox says the farmers market is a way of community supporting community.
“Locally grown produce and handmade items from your neighbors is better than anything you can get at the big box stores,” Fox said. “We love having it in downtown Beatrice, keeping it local, keep it downtown and encourage people to be in Beatrice, keep our money in Beatrice and be local.”
Fox says the farmers market goes beyond just benefiting the sellers and the community, but it also benefits the buyer. Buyers can get healtheir produce, grown closer to the place of purchase and they can build a better relationship with who they buy it from.
“You’ve got farmers here who will literally invite you out to their farm to show you how their operation works because they’re so proud of it,” Fox said. “I think supporting that is the most important thing.”
