GENEVA, Neb. -- Six counties came together for a threat and hazard identification workshop Tuesday.

Emergency managers, members of county government and fire departments from Jefferson, Saline, Thayer, Fillmore, Seward and York counties met at the Fillmore County Fairgrounds.

This “THIRA”, or Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, was the first for over 10 years and was put together through the University of Nebraska Lincoln Public Policy Center.

The goal: to identify previous threats and emergencies and identify the right equipment and preparation needed to keep a community safe.

“We come together and seeing from what we’ve had before. Some of the questions that they will ask tonight, ‘What can we do to better prepare ourselves for the next event?”

People interested in the discussion from the workshop are encouraged to contact their local emergency manager.
