LINCOLN, NEB. - Greg Sharpe, the long time voice of Husker football and baseball, announced his cancer diagnosis on Monday night.

“To be honest with you, I’m going to tell you something tonight that I wasn’t sure that I wanted to tell,” Sharpe said. “One: I don’t want to tell it. Two: I wasn’t sure that I wanted to let it out. But sometimes when you have news and you don’t confront it, a lot of rumors and innuendos get thrown out there. Half truths, And in the end, people are like ‘why didn’t he just say it. Why didn’t he just tell us.’ Bottom line is, I’ve been diagnosed with cancer.”

Sharpe made the announcement during Sports Nightly on the Huskers Radio Network.

Sharpe said he had been dealing with symptoms for the past couple of weeks and is nearing the point where he will require treatment. He expects treatment to interrupt his work.

Sharpe has been with the Huskers Radio Network since 2008, as a senior announcer, host and producer. Prior to his time with Huskers Radio, he worked for Kansas State Athletics as the voice of K-State football and basketball.
