BEATRICE, NEB. - Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen’s tour of Nebraska, celebrating National Ag Week, brought him to the states southeast region.
On Tuesday, Pillen spoke to a group of farmers and ag producers from the Beatrice area about the good of farming in Nebraska and a look into the states future in agriculture.
“Agriculture’s been leading our state since March 1, 1867,” Pillen said. “We have an incredibly robust economy that’s growing.”
Pillen also discussed a recent topic of debate in southeast Nebraska - ag production and other land uses, in a county deemed to be “ag friendly,”
“Every county in the state, we have different agro-ecological zones, we have different zones that have the best practices for different kinds of agriculture,” Pillen said. “Between grains, cattle, across our state I think every inch of our state can have an incredibly productive match in agriculture. As I like to say, we feed the world and we save the planet in Nebraska.”
Just a week ago, Trev Alberts resigned from his roll as Nebraska athletic director to take the same job at Texas A&M. A day later, Pillen issued a call to action, expressing the need for a swift hire for roles of both president and athletic director. He broke down why.
“The world’s moving fast… The world has changed a lot in the last five years, in college sports, things have changed a lot in the last 2-3 years,” Pillen said. “When you don’t have leadership, the world’s going to pass you by. In Nebraska, we’re going to lead the way, we aren’t going to let it pass us by.”
