Beatrice Clean City Week, on the schedule in May

BEATRICE – An annual Clean City Week campaign of the City of Beatrice has been set for early May. The yearly program helps residents discard large items at curbside, to be hauled away by city street crews using loaders and dump trucks.
Street Superintendent Jason Moore says this year’s event will be May 6th, 7th and 8th…with the 9th a final day to make pick-ups that may have been missed.
"May 6th will be the northeast corner....May 7th will be everything west of Sixth....May 8th will be the country club and areas south of Court....so that will be our three days we run around town and clean up."
The rules of the campaign will remain the same as they have in past years.
"We don't accept lumber, we don't accept tires, construction debris. This is a large item pick-up. We don't accept bags of clothes and items....we don't accept boxes."
The drop-off site for old mattresses will again be at the Beatrice Solid Waste Agency Landfill compost site…located along West Locust Road. Those bringing in mattresses will need to show proof of residence in Beatrice….just like last year.
Clean City Week in recent years was moved from April, to May…because of the chance for better weather conditions. The program has been offered through the City of Beatrice since 1989…a run of 35 years. It is free for residential properties and people can register online to participate.
