Top BHS wrestlers honored by Beatrice Board of Education

Girls and boys wrestlers place high at Nebraska Class B state tournament

BEATRICE – Two top athletes and students were recognized before the Beatrice Board of Education Monday night, in girls and boys wrestling. 

Junior Morgan Maschmann was honored for her success this year for the Lady Orange wrestling team.   Competing at 115 pounds, she racked up a 39-2 overall record and a runner-up finish at the Nebraska Class B State tournament.

Sophomore Merrick Johnson was also recognized.   The Beatrice Orangemen wrestler had a 36-6 record this year and a runner-up finish in the Nebraska Class B State tournament, wrestling at 175 pounds.

Student Luke Hamilton was also recognized for his involvement in supporting language needs with new students and their families…using his ability to speak Spanish.  He’s also a member of the Beatrice Orangemen baseball team.

Hamilton’s teacher, Salome Ausin-Dodge….was recognized as employee of the month for her efforts in teaching Spanish and working with English Learning Language students.

This Thursday marks the official start of the spring sports season, at BHS.
