EXETER, Neb. (KOLN) - A BNSF train derailed after a train hit a semi-trailer near Exeter.

The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by BNSF about the crash around 10 a.m. on Friday.

According to FCSO, the crash was at the crossing located on County Road 20 just north of Highway 6.

FCSO sent local law enforcement as well as Exeter Fire and Rescue units to the crash. At the scene, deputies found 15 to 20 derailed cars carrying Connex boxes.

FSCO said one train crew member was transported to Fillmore County Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the semitruck, carrying an empty fertilizer hopper, was checked over at the scene and did not require transport.

BNSF crews are on scene and clean-up efforts are under way.

This incident is still under investigation.
