Smoke smell sends Beatrice Fire, police to downtown building

BEATRICE, NEB. - Beatrice Fire and Rescue and the Beatrice Police Department responded to a report of smoke in a downtown Beatrice building Thursday afternoon. 

According to Beatrice Fire Captain Craig Fisher, just after 1:30 p.m., Beatrice Fire and Rescue searched the building located at 514 Court St., where they found visible smoke  in the first floor basement. Fisher says firefighters were working to find the source by checking computers, monitors, coffee makers and other electrical items. 

Crews continued to search the building into the early 2:00 p.m. hour. Court Street was shut down by BPD between 5th/6th as crews continued to investigate.
