Teenage caller arrested after LPD responds to false report of an active shooter at Gateway Mall

A caller was arrested on Saturday after the Lincoln Police Department responded to the Gateway Mall on the false report of an active shooter.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A caller was arrested on Saturday after the Lincoln Police Department responded to the Gateway Mall on the false report of an active shooter.

LPD said they received a report of an active shooter at the Ross Dress for Less at 7:23 p.m.

According to LPD, officers responded to the area while receiving information that the caller was still in the area. Officers located the caller nearby and determined there was never an active shooter and the call was otherwise considered a hoax.

The 18-year-old male caller was cited and arrested for false reporting, obstructing a government operation, third-degree assault on a police officer and assault on a police officer with body fluid. There is no ongoing threat to the public.

This is an ongoing investigation.
