Fairbury hires new water superintendent
FAIRBURY, Neb. -- The city of Fairbury hired a Water Superintendent Thursday night after the old superintendent left nearly two months ago.
The personnel committee voted to promote Dennis Gaston to Water Superintendent for the city, according to Fairbury Mayor Spencer Brown.
Gaston has been working for the city for nearly 30 years as a water operator. Brown said Gaston knows the water system inside and out.
“Dennis is the day-to-day guy,” Brown said. “Like I said, he’s been with the city for almost 30 years. He understands the water system inside and out. He is keeping things safe for the community, as well as keeping the water turned on. We all know how important that is when we want to go home and take a shower or drink out of the faucet and, you know, that department is the guys that keep the water turned on.”
The role of a Water Superintendent is everything from managing the drinking water to anything that water touches. The department takes care of Crystal Springs water as well.
