Doris Levergne (Heckart) Ruhnke, 92, formerly of Fairbury, NE, passed away January 21, 2024, at York General Hearthstone in York, NE. She was born April 6, 1931, to Reuel & Marguerite (White) Heckart in Independence, MO.

Doris was baptized May 5, 1946, in the Fairmount Christian Church in Independence, MO. She was raised in Independence, MO and attended schools in Kansas City. 

She had a love of horses and dogs,  showing her horse in Missouri  and Iowa, which is where she met the love of her life, her husband, Wilmer LeRoy Ruhnke. They were married on October 27, 1957, and to this union was blessed with 3 children, Gustav L., Donna Ann, and Joseph Lee.

Doris also enjoyed quilting and was awarded ribbons for her work, gardening and farming beside Wilmer, they were always quite the team! Also putting together 500 piece puzzles, doing crosswords, reading mystery novels and loving todays technology. Her smile could light up the room and always a kind and supportive word loving time with her family and the greatest joy of late were her 2 great grand daughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilmer, 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

Doris is survived by her children Gustav and his wife Mary of Davenport IA, Donna and her husband Neal of Waco NE and Joseph of Deshler NE. Grandchildren Hunter Ray Paneitz and wife Elizabeth of Lincoln NE, Nena Jo Obermier and husband Wesley of York,NE , Paige Renee Munstermann and husband Jesse of Denton NE, Molly Marguerite Ruhnke and Matthew Arthur Ruhnke both of Davenport IA, and Holden Lee Ruhnke of Deshler NE. 2 Great Grandchildren Penelope Grace Paneitz and Charlotte Ann Munstermann.  And many nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday, January 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury with burial in the St. Paul Evangelical Cub Creek Cemetery, Jansen, NE. The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 5 – 7 at the funeral home. Services will be streamed live on Grace Lutheran Church of Fairbury Nebraska Facebook page. Memorials will go to Family’s Choice. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is assisting with arrangements.
